Speed Dating with EHR Vendors

Healthcare organizations that don’t maintain and optimize their electronic health records (EHRs) are treading on risky territory with their physicians. Health Data Management brought this interesting information to us in their article, “EHR vendor selection process is fraught with risks in alienating docs.”

Some clinicians may decide to leave and go elsewhere to practice if their tools are not kept up to date, and don’t doubt for a moment that the EHR isn’t the most valuable tool in the box.

While physicians often report dissatisfaction with EHRs — and according to recent surveys 11 percent of acute facilities and 16 percent of ambulatory facilities plan to leave their current vendors, there are some reasons physicians like their current platforms.

One size does not fit all, however. Each vendor offers attributes and features that are more attractive to physicians of certain specialties, practice size, or even geographical region. It is always important to review vendor options with physicians if you want their support going forward.

  • Thanks for sharing the great post! According to me, EHR’s are the first step to transformed health care. They include Better health care by improving all aspects of patient care, including safety, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, communication, education, timeliness, efficiency, and equity.
